Fish Attracting Device. These are the spooky fad’s that all us sailors are wary of. Large heavily constructed bamboo and plank construction platforms unlit and floating all about these waters. The key word here is ” unlit ” virtually impossible to see at night and extremely hard to spot during daylight hours bobbing between the oceans swell. I care not to estimate the damage hitting one of these with a bowsprit and glass hull would cause.

Eye strain and constant vigilance become one when it’s your turn to be ” On Watch ” . Dozens are spotted and course changes can be frequent. We made a night sail on one leg of our journey as a night anchorage wasn’t readily available. Our taktic was to stand offshore about thirteen nautical miles and travel in the commercial shipping lanes with the cargo ships that are at least easier to spot. It was to no avail as we still encountered over a dozen.
