Adventures of the Jaga II

Fish On

Night run. These smiling waving fishermen head out for their nightly search with nets. We love the way they take pride in their sturdy crafts and paint them bright with a lot of individuality. Most all use four stroke single cylinder Chinese diesels that have a distinct music all their own. The motors have a heavy flywheel and are hand crank to start.

Subsistence is the name of the game. It’s hard to imagine the time and effort theses happy fishermen expend in the life long struggle to feed the family. At the same time it leaves us reluctant to sail at night as they use no navigation lights, only their hand held flashlights. It’s a different world and it’s the way Life here is so we respect it and seek other options so as not to entangle the nets or cause them any grief. A joy to witness and return the smiles and waves.
