Fellow Travellers

At Great Barrier Island is the famous anchorage at Smokehouse Bay. The late Eric Webster loved sailing his small late 1800’s yacht and friendly races with friends from Auckland to the Barrier. He gave back to the fraternity by providing this facility complete with a large smoke house for curing the catch, several twin-tub ringer washing basins and clothes lines for laundry, plenty of benches and seating for the outdoor barbie, sinking a brew while swapping a yarn around the fire pit, rope swings for the youngsters, and most enjoyable is the  outdoor and indoor wood fired bath tubs ! For many decades sailors have enjoyed and benefitted from this area. A grand example of the Karma that exists within the travellers community.
